The Beauty of Kudremukh
Kudremukh is an eco-tourism destination; it is a mountain range bearing the name of a peak located in Chikkamagaluru district, in Karnataka, India. It is also the name of a small hill station cum mining town situated near the mountain, about 20 kilometres from Kalasa. The name Kuduremukha literally means ‘horse-faced (Kannada) and refers to a particular picturesque view of a side of the mountain that resembles a horse’s face. It was also referred to as ‘Samseparvata’, historically since it was approached from Samse village. Kuduremukha is Karnataka’s 2nd highest peak after Mullayanagiri.
Kudremukh is a home for many flora and fauna. You can even spot deer and peacocks on the way amongst other wildlife while trekking! It is a beautiful trek across the rolling green hills and misty valleys. You traverse through grasslands, forest and many small streams. Kudremukh comes under Kudremukh National Park which is the second-largest wildlife protected area in the Western Ghats. It is situated at an altitude of 6,207 ft and is the 3rd highest peak of Karnataka after Mullayyangiri and Baba Budangiri.
